SAN CARLOS--Saturday night, Valentine's Day, both the boys and girls high school basketball teams gave their fans a little love. They played in back-to-back sectional tournament championship games--and they won both.
The girls started the evening out facing off against Ray for the third time this season and, for the third time this season, they beat them. The girls won by 15 points in their impressive 37 to 22 victory. More impressive, this is the fourth year in the row that the girls have won their sectional tournament.
The boys built upon the girls' momentum as they headed into their game against Mogollon. They struggled against the Mogollon defense, but persevered by attacking the paint and passing the ball. Eventually they pulled ahead by 10 points to cap off the evening with a 38 to 28 victory.
Because of their wins, both teams receive a bye for the first round of the state tournament. The girls enter the state tournament as the #2 seed. The boys enter the state tournament as the #6 seed.
